Purpose
Knowing who our clients are is fundamental to preventing fraud and financial crime. This policy explains the identity checks we carry out before and during an engagement.
Identity verification
Before substantive work begins, we take reasonable steps to verify a client's identity. For individuals this typically includes confirming name, and may include government-issued identification and proof of address. For organisations we verify legal existence and the identity of those instructing us.
Our KYC checks help us to:
- Confirm clients are who they say they are
- Understand the nature and purpose of the engagement
- Identify higher-risk situations that require additional scrutiny
- Meet our obligations under applicable anti-money-laundering law
Ongoing monitoring
We may repeat or update checks during an engagement, particularly where circumstances change or new information comes to light. We may decline to act, or discontinue work, where we cannot complete our checks to our satisfaction.
